Note: If you are looking for a sweet natured horse to be a friend to you, your family and your herd, Promise is the girl for you. Promise came to the rescue severely emaciated and with Navicular. Since being at her foster home, she has had her feet trimmed properly for this issue and is being fitted for shoes which she will wear during the summer months on pasture. Because she has Navicular, Promise is not ridable. She is pasture sound. She navigates the rolling hills of her foster home and is able to keep up with her herd mates (2 mares, 2 geldings, and a mini). Promise does not tolerate being stalled and would not do well in a barn life situation. Her adopter must be willing to spend the extra time at feeding time to meet her health needs. She will also require a home with a farrier who knows the needs of a horse with Navicular. She does take daily medication to keep her comfortable and eats senior feed (non-sweet) and soaked beet pulp. Due to her poor teeth, she is a sloppy eater but cleans up the food she drops on the ground once her feeder is empty. While on pasture she requires less feed to maintain her weight. At her foster home she does eat from a round bale and requires additional feed to maintain her weight. Promise is a calm, quiet horse and appears to have been well trained in her past life. She adapts to new surroundings, routines, and herd mates quickly. She loves to be around people and does well with the 6 year old grandson at her foster home. Prior to rescue Promise was abandoned, locked in a stall where she starved nearly to death before someone discovered her. She deserves to have a happy life on turn out and we hope to find a great adopter willing to offer her just that.
