Thank you for your interest in West Virginia Horse Network’s Golden Day Club Program. The purpose of this program is to allow horses to enjoy their “golden years” with wonderful adopters. By adopting through this program equine caregivers will be able to receive an annual tax receipt for the cost of providing care to the animal. WVHN horses listed as “Golden Day Club Program Eligible” are entirely or mostly rehabilitated horses seeking forever homes.
What you need to know:
Horses in this program are either senior or occasionally younger horses that require special treatment and attention due to an ongoing medical condition. Not ALL senior horses will be designated as eligible for this program. Please look for the GDCP logo or ask our Adoption Team for a list of eligible horses. Horses designated as GDCP eligible are also available for standard adoptions.
Similar to adoption, horses available through the GDCP are provided a forever home by compassionate caregivers.
You must submit our standard Adoption Interest Survey and be approved for participation in the GDCP.
While caring for the GDCP horse, any expenses incurred by the caregiver are tax-deductible, including but not limited to your adoption fee, feed, stall bedding, veterinary care, farrier care, medication, and supplements. (Please check with your personal accountant to verify that the tax-deduction will be beneficial to you, as we are unable to guarantee this).
All care of the horse including but not limited to feed, stall bedding, veterinary care, farrier care, medication, and supplements will be the sole financial responsibility of the caregiver unless otherwise agreed upon or stipulated.
West Virginia Horse Network, INC. retains the title for GDCP horses throughout their lifetimes and ownership of the horse will not be transferred to the adopter.
Adopters will be required to provide an annual health and condition report including visual proof of the horse’s wellbeing and current veterinary records.
Understand that horses available through the Golden Day Club Program are likely to have specific dietary and care requirements. The adopter is expected to maintain the level of care specified by the WVHN’s veterinarian as noted at the time of adoption.
