West Virginia Horse Network, Inc. along with local equine mentors will guide you through the experiences you need to prepare you for horse ownership. Along the way we'll help you make essential connections in the local horse community that will benefit you when you become a horse owner. These connections include everything from feed stores, to farriers, to hay vendors and riding instructors. You'll also get the chance to immerse yourself in a barn family that can help nurture you along the way.
Besides valuable connections, knowledge and support there will also be incentives along your "treasure hunt" as you mark new milestones. By the time you are finished, you'll have the foundation of knowledge AND some of the supplies you need to adopt a GEM of a horse.
This program is FREE.
The program is geared toward adults.
We will however permit limited "family" participation for children 12 and up participating with the full support of an adult parent/legal guardian who is also enrolled and actively participating in the program, with the goal of adopting.
At this time registration is limited to 30 people. So sign up today. Once you complete the application please allow 2 weeks for a volunteer to reach out to you. We will answer any questions you have at that time.
We are so excited to be part of your journey to adoption! Thanks to the ASPCA and the Right Horse for believing in our crazy idea and making this possible.
West Virginia Horse Network, Inc. is recruiting barns to help us provide interested adopters who may not have any prior horse experience with the opportunity to LEARN and gain the knowledge they need to get started. We'll also be recruiting "treasure hunters" who maybe owned horses years ago but who need help breaking back in to the local horse community.
For mentoring barns the program includes incentives such as:
*the opportunity to foster a rescue horse (stipend for basic care provided as well as all vet and farrier care covered by the rescue)
*prizes whenever your foster horse gets adopted
*opportunities to gain new clients (lessons, boarders, etc.)
*opportunities for great, meaningful exposure on our social media platforms
In a nutshell, you'll do things such as invite "Treasure Hunters" to observe and participate in things like putting up hay, holding horses for the farrier, watching vet visits, making feed store trips, CLEANING STALLS...you know, those experiences people need to have before they own a horse. The program is self paced and you can host "treasure hunters" at times that work for you and your barn vibe.
Please fill out the form below and then we will contact you directly soon to discuss any questions you may have. We are so excited to be part of your journey to adoption! Thanks to the ASPCA and the Right Horse for believing in our crazy idea and making this possible.
